We would like to welcome you to the web site of the Microbial Ecophysiology Unit of the National and Kapodistrian University of Athens. Our Unit belongs to the Microbiology Laboratory at the Sector of Botany of the Department of Biology. We are located at the 1st floor (Microbiology Corridor) of the Biology Building at the Athens University Campus at Zografou, Attica.
Research interests
Our major research interests focus on the physiology, ecology and genetic interactions of bacteria (with special emphasis on Streptomyces), Microbial Biotechnology - using industrial waste through liquid and solid state fermentation, cultivation of new bacterial isolates from selected ecosystems to produce new bioactive compounds and the application and development of molecular techniques to control genetically modified organisms.
